Access to Bulk Billing or Medicare Rebates

Talk to your GP if you are wanting a referral to a psychologist for counselling.   Medicare
Rebates are available for problems including: depression, anxiety, anger management, problems adjusting to changes in your life, drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, problems with grief, sexual disorders, and sleep problems.

If you meet the criteria, your GP can prepare a Mental Health Care Plan.  This Plan outlines the problems you are experiencing and the strategies you and your GP will use to address the problem – counselling with a psychologist can be included as a strategy.

Medicare rebates are available for 6 counselling sessions each calendar year.  You will need to bring a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan and your Medicare Card to your counselling appointment.

At the 6th counselling session, we will review your progress in counselling and discuss with you whether further appointments are needed.  If further counselling is needed, you may be
eligible for Medicare  rebates for a further 4 sessions.
